When referencing the Abenthy page I noticed this line:
Ben asks to join the troupe to which Kvothe agrees.
It would be Kvothe's father Arliden whose agreement would allow Abenthy to travel with the troupe.
Favorite three characters from the books? I'm going crazy from quarantine, so bonus points if you feel like sharing why in detail.
...And if so, what is it about that person to that reminds you of the character that Rothfuss created? I met a Kvothe, I think. Same stubbornness, same sharp mind, and definitely the same sense of pride. Some days I wondered if his pride and stubbornness arm-wrestled each other in the morning and the winner would make the decisions for that day. Also the same...truthiness? Like, "oh-this-is-true-in-a-way" sort of thing. Deeply flawed, but also incredibly intriguing and full of potential. And all the ignorance of women, haha.
I'm especially curious if anyone has met a real life Chronicler or Denna.
Hey Kingkiller fans, it's me Newt Strike, a global discussion moderator. I'm sure anyone who visits this wiki is a huge fan of Kingkiller series. But ever thought, what if you are suddenly pushed into the world of Temerant and play an important part there? I'm sure you understand by now that I'm talking about Role-playing set in the same world. So, here's the wiki solely dedicated for role-playing in the kingkiller world.

Create your own character set in the franchise and start role-playing. Hope to see you around there!!
Let me stress something before I get into this: Patrick Rothfuss is a really incredible author. There is no doubt he is skilled. With that in mind, I have to wonder why Denna is written as such a trope. Is this deliberate?
Could there be any bigger cliche than the beautiful woman who is so stunning that she apparently alienates other women with her beauty? Yes, that's how things go in shows like "The Bachelor," but in real life there are plenty of attractive women who are mature enough and secure enough to have genuine, intimate friendships with other women without being catty or jealous of each others' appearances.
Other characters have said that Denna doesn't have female friends due to her beauty, but if that's truly the case in the story line, she is a massive stereotype. That seems too silly and predictable for a strong writer like Rothfuss. Could he instead be hinting that Denna is actually quite petty, frivolous, and otherwise lacking as an equal for Kvothe?
Hello Everyone,
I am reading the two books for the second time and came across something I don't understand.
In book 1 in chapter 58 Kvothe and Denna exchange names, but she tells him her name is Dianne.
Then in chapter 65 Kvothe sees her with Deoch and says to his friends 'That's Denna'. How could he know her name was Denna at that time? There is no mentioning in the chapters between. Is this a mistake on Rothfuss' part or maybe an intentional mistake of Kvothe the storyteller? Or did I just miss something?

Kvothe's sword is referred to as the "poet killer." When in the land of the barbarians, Vashet protected a poet king. Kvothe killed a king. I wonder if the king Kvothe killed was Vashet's poet king. This would seem to fit with the foreshadowing.
Hello, Kingkiller fans!
I've been working on something I think you'll all find very intriguing: converting articles from this wiki into annotations on xyAnnotations, which can be integrated directly into ebooks and viewed in just about any ebook reader. It's really neat being able to just tap on a name or phrase or location within a book and have the wiki articles already loaded and available to view right there.
I made a short video demonstrating it in action, and if you'd like to give it a try, I'd recommend starting here. I've also been working on creating annotations from other wikis for these and other popular books. You can see some of the annotations on my xyAnnotations profile.
As you can see, I've got a large part of the main articles transferred over, thanks to the automated tool I built. However, because it is automated, there are some things that aren't quite right and I'd love to get some help improving the converted annotations. I need to do things like remove annotations that will never be highlighted within books, remove sections that are not relevant in the annotation format, fix searches so that more aliases are highlighted within books, and much more. Additionally, I also need help adding books, their covers, and their metadata to the xyAnnotations books database.
I'm a moderator on all of the Kingkiller Chronicle books and annotation sets on xyAnnotations so I can accept your changes or even make you a moderator as well if you're willing, able, and trustworthy. It'd be great to have some of the trusted members here moderating the related books and sets of annotations on xyAnnotations. There are a lot of books and series and authors I'm working on annotating so it's hard for me to properly manage all of these annotations and books without any help.
So if any of the Kingkiller fans or scholars here are interested in helping out, just let me know and I can point you in the right direction. If you're just looking to get these annotations into your ebooks and are having trouble, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help. Just a note, Reddit is my main forum, so if I'm not responding quick enough here feel free to send me a message on Reddit.
Rand'al Thor Its rather obious that he is cinder. The chtae tells Kvothe he has meet him twice. Once when his family dies and second time when he poses as a bandit. So it must be Cinder, as we can count people he only met twice on one hand. Becides, cinder = ashes so name joke is there. Probably he is both Bredon and cinder. He likes games of spite. And steers Kvothes actions. Maybe he even controlls Denna in all she does.Maybe he makes Denna write a false version of the tale from Tarbon to spite Kvothe and drive them apart slowly. The Chtae does the same. If he is one of the chandrian he would know of the Chtae and that it would tell him of what was happening to Denna.Maube hes Just hitting her to Hurt Kvothe. It is also Worth mentioning that Denna learned Illian.Where sid she learn a dead language? Even Kvothe can only learn it by luck of the chancelor.
Ash is Making it harder for them both. Maybe he always knows where Kvothe is and sends Denna there at the same time. I mean, shes always there. Even when he takes a random tripp to the City of Taerbon or whatnot. She always meet him where it is the least likely. I also have a feeling that the dissapear into the Fae once a month which fitts Denna dissapearing all the time, same as Bredon. I fear he maybe he wants kvothe kills the king for him. Kingkiller. Or maybe he holds Denna hostage and uses her to threaten him to make him kill the Poet king. Third book Will be like the tale of the Fae Prince and Princess. I think Kvothe gets to know where he is from, meet Bast in the Fae as i belive kvothe is from there as well as changling. Maybe Denna is one too and he trives to rescue her from beyond the Doors of Stone or maybe she is the moon that moves between worlds. We know she was with a man once. Maybe its the guy from the tales. He cast her aside, it fits, sort off. And she talks of stones, listning to them, what they are for, beside a waystone, which we coicidentally know might be marks for where the fae world bridges the mortal realm! She hints at him so much but he was so dumb. But enough about that, remeber this is not a happy story. We know they never end happy ever after so dont expect much. Maybe he locks dennas name in the chest in his room in the waystone inn. Which is coincidentally named after just these stones. So my theories, but only one truth. The next book will be the end of the trillogy. The story which leads to current events. But i hope and expect the books which follows will be current events of how he finally releases his own name again, which is in the chest? We know its bad to chsnge ones real name from the crazy teborlin at the university. Lets hope he find happiness with Denna in the end.10-15 years from now when im in my thirties!
Just me rambling out a few of the many theories in my head. But the stuff in the beginning i belive is true. Tbh. Written in haste on mobile so ignore spelling.
It's been many years since I've read books 1 and 2 and I hope someone can help me determine whether a particular scene is in either book. This scene has been circulating in my head and it seemingly won't go away until I recall the book it's from.
The scene is this: The hero is locked in a room or cell and he escapes by communicating with the wood door and reminding it of its past as a tree. He convinces the wood that it can return to being a tree if it so desires. The door disappears, the hardware falls to the floor and he is set free.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
I was thinking about the archive, and the descriptions of the places the scribes worked. And I realised there was no mention of any large scal book manufacturing. So I want to know if the printing press has been mentioned or inferred so far in the books.
It would be cool if there was some kind of alchemy/sygaldry based system, but at the very least a simple hand one would still be great.
On this page it says "In The Name of the Wind, Kvothe tells us that he will encounter Abenthy again many years after his leaving, even when he is expelled from the University." I do not recall any such reference in THOTW, and the Abenthy entry in this wiki makes no such statement.
Who do you think is Master Ash?
I think the most suitable candidate is Bredon. The pagan rituals, he is learning to dance and Denna mentioning that he is a good dancer, him disappearing from severen at the same time as Denna point directly to his manifestation of "A beautiful game".
But why? His motivations are unclear.
Why use Denna to research and make a song praising Lanre?
Was he the one using Caudicus to kill the maer? (Caudicus was found only 10 miles from severen)
Every 2-3 weeks I search around the internet looking for any interviews or articles that might mention a release date for Book 3. Could anyone chime in on any news they have heard on the topic of a release date? This wait is seriously killing me!
The last thing I remember hearing is someone saying that the book will not be out in 2016? Not sure where the source is from... If anyone has anything to add, please do so!
