Chandrian, Chandrian is a folk song in Temerant about The Chandrian.

Description Edit

The song is described as being "ages old",[1] and depicts the members of The Chandrian as well as their signs. Although the song is likely meant to be a warning to people of the malevolent Chandrian, it is regarded in the present-day world as a children's song that is entirely fictional, as almost no one believe in the existence of the Chandrian.

There are two versions of the song. The two songs have slightly different stanzas, which are likely all part of the original song, and that each time it was sang, was not sang in its entirety.

Childrens version[1]

When the hearthfire turns to blue,
What to do? What to do?
Run outside. Run and hide.

When his eyes are black as crow?
Where to go? Where to go?
Near and far. Here they are.

See a man without a face?
Move like ghosts from place to place.
What’s their plan? What’s their plan?
Chandrian. Chandrian.

Kvothe/Denna's version[2]

When the hearthfire turns to blue,
What to do? What to do?
Run outside. Run and hide.

When your bright sword turns to rust?
Who to trust? Who to trust?
Stand alone. Standing stone.

See a woman pale as snow?
Silent come and silent go.
What’s their plan? What’s their plan?
Chandrian. Chandrian.

In the Chronicle Edit

The song is mentioned twice in The Name of the Wind: First when a group of travelers arrive at the Waystone Inn when it is sang by the children accompanying them, and second by Kvothe, who sings it to Denna after they witnessed some of these signs at the Mauthen Farm (namely the blue flame Denna saw and the rusted metal Kvothe felt).
